Primary Teacher and English Consultant
Katie is an experienced teacher and English Lead, currently focussing on writing. Throughout this role, she has supported many schools with their writing journey on a one-to-one basis and now runs online courses to reach a wider audience. She currently teaches Year One and works as a Key Stage One and Key Stage Two Moderator. ‘The Teach Hub’ provides a host of tried and tested resources to support each delivered course.
Overview of training:
The explicit teaching of the skills required to enable pupils to edit and revise their writing are lessons that are often overlooked. Yet, it is these skills that can truly transform a pupil’s writing and enable pupils to reach their full potential if done well. This course dives into the difference between editing and revising and offers a wealth of activities and suggestions to improve pupils skills in these areas. Colleagues will have chance to evaluate their current practice and make plans moving forward.
An informative and practical course that is aimed at English Subject Leaders, Primary School teachers and Senior Leadership team members.
Course Content:
- To understand the key principles behind Editing and Revising
- To understand where Editing and Revising fits within the National Curriculum.
- To investigate research from the EEF into the writing journey.
- To improve the sequence of the writing journey for each child across the primary phases.
- To understand the importance of explicitly teaching Editing and Revising skills.
- To investigate activities and games to use during Editing and Revising sessions.
- To discuss the implications on independence when pupils Edit and Revise their work.
- To have access to a wide range of resources and planning to support the teaching of Editing and Revising within a Writing Journey.
- To evaluate current practice.
- To plan next steps for pupils with regards to their Editing and Revising.
