Deep dives – every inspector will conduct a deep dive into reading in collaboration with senior leaders. This will look deeply into a school’s reading provision, which involves gathering evidence on the curriculum intent, implementation and impact of the subject in collaboration with leaders, teachers and pupils. The intent of the deep dive is to seek to interrogate and establish a coherent evidence base on the quality of an educational setting’s reading education.
This course is designed to support Senior School Leaders and English Subject Leaders with reviewing the phonics area of the Reading Deep Dive section of the OFSTED. Each area will be investigated thoroughly, with evidence collected to really assess the quality of education. It reviews the knowledge and understanding needed to teach daily phonics lesson along with the application of the use of phonics and spellings in everyday writing. It explores the materials available that may be used in phonics teaching; how to ensure curriculum consistency and coverage; routine assessment and the necessity for all to be thoroughly involved in implementation.
Many resources are included in the price of the course that are completely unique to ‘The Teach Hub’, including our original Phonic and Spelling Charts 1-6 that have been made specifically for the different year groups (to year 6) and phases to include the spelling patterns from the National Curriculum. We have also linked the high-frequency words lists and Common Exception Words (CEW) together and show where they can be taught according to their phonic structures to link with current Letters and Sounds teaching.
