This foundation phonics course is designed to support teachers, HLTAs and Teaching Assistants with the teaching of phonics in line with the Letters and Sounds document used by many schools. It teaches the knowledge and understanding needed to teach the daily phonic lesson along with the application of the use of phonics and spellings in everyday writing. It explores the vocabulary used in phonics; how to articulate the sounds; the four parts to the daily phonic session; routine assessment and the characteristics of a good phonics session. It will also determine the pace of the teaching and coverage of the criteria linking up to Phase 6 of Letters and Sounds and the National Curriculum statutory spelling requirements in Year 2.
Many resources are included in the price of the course that are completely unique to ‘The Teach Hub’, including our original Phonic and Spelling Charts 1-6 that have been made specifically for the different year groups (to year 6) and phases to include the spelling patterns from the National Curriculum. We also include our outline planning for Letters and Sounds from EY-Y2. This planning incorporates the Letters and Sounds graphemes that are linked to the National Curriculum statutory spelling requirements and the Phonic Screening Test criteria for Year 1. We have also linked the high-frequency words lists and Common Exception Words (CEW) together and show where they can be taught according to their phonic structures to link with current Letters and Sounds teaching.
