Description
This is the free introductory module for Unit 1 (Year 1) for ‘Teaching Spellings using Phonics in the Primary School’ to demonstrate how the use of phonics underpins good spelling knowledge.
The complete Year 1 Unit consists of a series of 14 modules, with some supporting teaching resources in each one all linking to the National Curriculum spelling expectations. Each module has a link to a PowerPoint video with explanations – please follow the YouTube link below or click the link in the pdf in the downloaded files. Also included in these files is the introductory Powerpoint, the Vowel Hand and a Survey link.

This unit is written by Claire Hubbard: Primary English Consultant for The Teach Hub and Entrust, Staffordshire. Claire is a highly experienced and knowledgeable Primary English Consultant, currently working in many counties, supporting numerous schools. She works as both a Key Stage One and Key Stage Two Moderator and has supported many schools in this role. She is the Managing Director of ‘The Teach Hub’ – a Primary Teaching online and resource company, and she regularly delivers varied Primary English training to schools. She is also a part-time Year Two teacher delivering Whole Class Reading demonstrations to other teachers each term.
