Primary Teacher and English Consultant
Katie is an experienced teacher and English Lead, currently focussing on writing. Throughout this role, she has supported many schools with their writing journey on a one-to-one basis and now runs online courses to reach a wider audience. She currently teaches Year One, works as a Key Stage One Moderator and has also had experience with Key Stage Two Moderation.

Overview of training:
During this training, Katie will discuss the writing journey of children in EYFS. We will discuss the processes that need to be developed in children through Nursery and Reception in order to enable them to become confident writers. This will include looking at quality provision that can be used to promote all aspects of writing and how to support both pupils who are below and exceeding expectations.
Course Content:
- The key processes that children need to be taught in order to become writers.
- The progression of writing across EYFS and how this will look as pupils enter Year One.
- The fundamentals to gaining good pencil control, and in turn, letter and word formation.
- The requirements for beginning to spell within EYFS.
- How to create meaningful writing opportunities within the EYFS provision.
- Discussions on how to differentiate and support scaffolds for pupils.
