Course Leader: Katie Wainwright
Primary Teacher and English Consultant
Katie is an experienced teacher and English Lead, currently focussing on writing. Throughout this role, she has supported many schools with their writing journey on a one-to-one basis and now runs online courses to reach a wider audience. She currently teaches Year One, works as a Key Stage One Moderator and has also had experience with Key Stage Two Moderation.

Overview of training:
During this training, Katie will touch on the five main stages of the Writing Process: plan, draft, edit, revise and publish. Spending time mainly exploring the planning and drafting of writing, Katie will model how to move from a Long Term Plan to Short Term Plans and finally, into children’s books. Time will be spent exploring how to map out pupils’ learning using WAGOLLs ensuring that objectives from the school’s Long Term Plan are taught at both a knowledge and application level and considering how objectives can be transferred into the Wider Curriculum.

- What is the Writing Process?
- How to map out a unit of writing.
- What a WAGOLL is and how to write one.
- Ways to encourage pupils to plan their writing.
- How to move from a plan to a first draft.
- How to apply grammar concepts into children’s writing.
- What happens when children have completed their first draft?
- How to plan application of skills across the Wider Curriculum.
- Discussions on how to differentiate and support scaffolds for pupils.
