Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Year 6 in a zip file based on Suzanne Collin’s book ‘Gregor the Overlander’ (author of The Hunger Games).

In this pack, you will find 2 x whole class lessons (an hour-long for each – or you can split them), an editable PowerPoint presentation with vocabulary links, the task sheets (with scaffolding) and the planning that we use to teach the Key Stage Two Reading Domains. The tasks are closely linked to the question stems from recent SAT papers.

These resources are made for Upper Key Stage Two pupils and will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities. They will help to assess the understanding of the text, characterisation and attitudes along with promoting deep discussion on inference and impression of characters using evidence.  This unit also promotes a stamina of reading and is based on the first three chapters of the text. As this is the first book in a series, it will encourage your pupils to read further.

You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.

This unit is the same in both Year 5 and Year 6.
