Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Upper Key Stage 2 (9 – 11 years) in a zip file based on Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ book.

This unit is based on the first chapter of the book.  It is a free sample of one week’s work to show how we develop our units in UKS2.  It is hoped that the pupils continue the unit with their teacher or will be encouraged to read the rest of the book independently. This is a hugely popular book with great scope for teaching all the reading requirements in a lively and interesting context that appeals to both boys and girls.

In this pack you will find 1 x whole class lessons (an hour-long – or you can split it), an editable PowerPoint presentation, the task sheets and detailed planning that we use to show evidence in inference, retrieval, prediction, summarising and vocabulary work.  These resources will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities and will help to assess the reading skills of your class. You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.

This unit is the same in both Year 5 and Year 6
