Description
Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Upper Key Stage 2 in a zip file based on Berlie Doherty’s ‘Street Child’. The book highlights the poverty in Victorian London. It is based on a true story of an orphan who inspired Doctor Barnardo to set up his children’s refuge.
This pack is based on the first four chapters of the book. In this pack, you will find 2 x whole class lessons (an hour-long for each – or you can split them), an editable PowerPoint presentation with vocabulary links, the task sheets (with scaffolding) and the planning that we use to teach the Key Stage Two Reading Domains. The tasks are closely linked to the question stems from recent SAT papers.
These resources are made for Year 5 and 6 pupils and will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities. They will help to assess the understanding of the text, characterisation and attitudes along with promoting deep discussion on inference and impressions of characters and places using evidence from the text. This unit also promotes a stamina of reading and would link well with a Victorian topic.
You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.
This unit is for UKS2 so it is the same for both Year 5 and Year 6.
