Description
These maths sheets are designed for mixed ability groups to use. They can be written on, or the maths can be put into the books. They are designed to challenge your higher achievers and support your needier children, whilst pushing your children with a variety of maths problems for your middle ability learners.
Each sheet is designed for the children to decide on what step they start on.
Example: They may do four or five questions on Step 1 and get them correct. Then encourage those children to then go onto the next step. If a child is still struggling with Step 1, allow them to continue.
Step 1 is designed for the children that need reminding of what they did last year. This builds confidence for those that need it and allows them to create a strong foundation (some children will not need to start on this step).
Step 2 is designed for many children to build their confidence and perfect their technique.
Step 3 is designed to challenge the children using different ways of looking at the question, problem solving and reasoning.
Step 4 is to allow the children to explore their maths using what they know and have learnt to create similar problems. (This really does show if a child understands the concept taught. If they can produce problems using the concepts taught, it shows they have a greater understanding of the area).
A selection of 12 maths sheets, in both editable Word and PDF version, to support the teaching of place value at Y4. Each sheet is differentiated into steps where Step 1 is revision from Y3 (if applicable) and Step 2 is practising the skills taught at Y4. Greater depth questions can be found in Step 3 and Step 4 is to allow the children to create their own questions to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. All sheets come with an answer sheet.
