Description
Discover four of the forty trailblazing black women in the world’s history with this Whole Class reading unit for Year 5. Included in these resources is planning for Year 5, in a zip file using Vashti Harrison’s ‘Little Leaders – Bold Women in Black History’. Vocabulary, Retrieval, Clarification, Inference, Prediction and Summarising are covered in this unit. This book links well to Black History Month in October (UK) and with the PSHE curriculum to inspire others.
Please note that this unit focuses on the same leaders as the Year Three unit: Shirley Bassey and Tessa Sanderson. Nina Simone and Florence Joyner are also used for comparison. There is a separate Year Five unit with alternative leaders: Rosa Parks and Nina Simone.
In this pack you will find 2 x whole class lessons: (an hour long focus – or you can split it into separate days); an editable PowerPoint presentation; vocabulary focus; full planning using the KS2 Reading Domains; and the task sheets (scaffolded) all ready to print. The original book is needed to complete the unit.
