Description

Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Year 5 in a zip file based on Michael Morpurgo’s’ ‘Beowulf’ book.

This unit is based on the whole of the first story in the book.  It is hoped that the pupils will be encouraged to read on to the following continual stories in the book about Grendel’s mother and the Sea Dragon. The extensive vocabulary used in this unit is greatly highlighted and the focus of Tier Two words is used to encourage the transition of their use into writing.

In this pack you will find 2 x whole class lessons (an hour-long for each – or you can split them), an editable PowerPoint presentation, the task sheets and detailed planning that we use to show evidence in inference, retrieval, prediction, clarification, summarising, author’s choice of language, comparisons and vocabulary work.  These resources will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities and will help to assess the reading skills of your class. You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.

Weeks 1 and 2 are also available to complete the story.
