Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Upper Key Stage 2 in a zip file based on Beverley Naidoo’s book ‘Journey to Jo’burg.’ The background of the story is set in South Africa during the apartheid years.

This pack is based on the whole book. In this pack, you will find 5 x whole class lessons (an hour-long for each – or you can split them), an editable PowerPoint presentation with vocabulary links, the task sheets (with scaffolding) and the planning that we use to teach the Key Stage Two Reading Domains. The tasks are closely linked to the question stems from recent SAT papers.  This unit covers the complete book.

These resources are made for Year 5 and 6 pupils and will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities. They will help to assess the understanding of the text, characterisation and attitudes along with promoting deep discussion on inference and impression of characters using evidence.  This unit also promotes a stamina of reading.

You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.

This unit is the same in both Year 5 and Year 6.
