Whole Class Reading resources and planning for Year 6 in a zip file based on the first four chapters of Morris Gleitzman’s book ‘Once’.

In this pack, you will find 2 x whole class lessons (an hour-long for each – or you can split them), an editable PowerPoint presentation with the task sheets (with scaffolding) and the planning that we use to teach the Key Stage Two Reading Domains. The tasks are closely linked to the question stems from recent SAT papers. This book is told directly from the character’s point of view.

These resources are made for Year 6 pupils and will show evidence for a number of reading skills at different abilities. They will help to assess the understanding of the text, characterisation and attitudes, along with promoting deep discussion on inference and decision-making. It also links well to a history unit on World War Two. You will need to purchase the book to complete this unit.

Books in this series to read after this unit: Then, Now, After, Soon and Maybe
